Other countries – good and bad

Having been in the Netherlands over Easter, it’s interesting to see good and bad in such a civilized place.

Dutch people are tolerant (even if that sometimes means that they don’t pay much attention to others), their towns and cities are cosmopolitan and sophisticated (even if that sometimes means they have large and troubled immigrant districts), and their politics is generally moderate and stable (even if they sometimes have nut-jobs like Geert Wilders). It’s a hugely crowded country, but there are great parks and lakes where you really can get away from it all. There are no mountains to speak of, but the flat and the water does have a real attraction in its own way.

Fascinating place, really.  Still haven’t quite understood it…if that’s even possible.
